On the Issue of Technology
& Globalization
Genetic engineering bypasses every single biological boundary in the animal
and plant kingdom. The mass release of thousands of genetic materials
may mean biological genetic pollution that is irreversible. This can mean
the end of nature.
Rifkin proposes that humanity establish the gene pool as the commons to
be protected as a trust for all time - as we did with Antarctica. Genes
belong to millions of years of evolution. They are not the political or
private property of a state or a corporation.
